Why Are Some People Deaf?

  1. Hereditary – Genes passed on from parents
  2. Prenatal Exposure – If the baby catches a disease from the mum while she is pregnant it can hurt the developing baby 
  3. Noise – Loud noise damages delicate mechanisms inside your ear 
  4. Trauma – Changes in air pressure or being hit in the head can damage your ear or brain 
  5. Disease – Some diseases can result in temporary or permanent deafness 
  6. Age Related – Hearing becomes weaker as you age
  7. Other Causes – Exposure to chemicals or using drugs can also result in deafness
